His Beatitude Mar Narsai De Baz Visits St George Mission

Sydney

13 August 2006

On a perfect Sunday morning on 13 August 2006, I had the privilege to be seated with His Beatitude Mar Narsai. We were on our way to visit the St George Parish where His Beatitude would perform the Holy Mysteries. Our beloved Metropolitan of Lebanon, Syria and Europe and Patriarchal Representative is currently visiting Australia and New Zealand.

Upon his entrance into the hall His Beatitude was greeted by the singing voices of the Choir in the Aramaic. It was a memorable moment for all who attended, as the Holy Eucharist was offered by His Beatitude with the sun lighting up the Matraville School hall. The powerful yet peaceful light was a reflection of the way His Beatitude performed the Holy Mysteries and his touching and inspiring sermon.

His Beatitude delivered a message to the St George Parish congregation in a manner much like a parent lovingly speaks to their children. He preached with a comforting, peaceful and fatherly tone, speaking of the contrasting natures of righteous and sinful living. He added a powerful touch by looking into the eyes of the members in attendance bringing a personal conviction to all those sitting close to the pulpit.

The congregation then proceeded to partake in the commemoration of the body and blood of our Saviour Jesus Christ. Following the sealing prayer and ending of the Holy Mysteries, the St George Parish Hospitality Committee graciously prepared a morning tea for His Beatitude and the rest of the clergy in attendance. A morning tea buffet was also arranged for the congregation.

Upon completion of a thanksgiving prayer to the Lord God by His Beatitude, all were then seated together for morning tea. Reverend Genard Lazar, Mission Priest, officially welcomed His Beatitude on behalf of the congregation, followed by a speech from Deacon Akhiqar Benyamin, Committee President. His Beatitude Mar Narsai then addressed the faithful in attendance. He was encouraged by all those present in the hall, and thanked them, mentioning how he felt it was much like a family environment being in the hall and how it brought back fond memories from the past. He also encouraged them to be as one and to continue with the hard work in working towards their own premises in the future.
