A power point presentation
By His Beatitude
Mar Beatitude Mar Gewargis Sliwa Metropolitan
Sunday 4th January 2009
His Beatitude Mar Gewargis Sliwa (Metropolitan of Iraq and Russia) screened a power point presentation entitled 'Pictures from the Past'. The presentation focused on historical images that have played a great significance in the history of the Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East. The presentation took place in Edessa Hall and was organized by the Assyrian Church of the East Youth Association, Sydney.

The evening commenced with the Assyrian National Anthem. Such was followed by Reni Misho giving a brief outline about the evening and was concluded by Ashur Khoshaba (president of the Assyrian Church of the East Youth Association, Sydney) extending his appreciation for His Beatitude's presence and efforts for allowing the evening to be possible.
Following this, His Beatitude Mar Gewargis Sliwa commenced with blessing the new year of the faithful who were present and moreover gave a synopsis of the presentation which was organised into five sections.
1. Photos of older books:
This section focused on various books collected by His Beatitude over time. His Beatitude showed the present faithful images of books that dated back as far as 1000 years old. The books varied from church history to the actual meaning of what occurs in the Assyrian Church of the East Eucharistic service and many more.
2. Photos of prelates & clergy:
This section was indeed inspiring, as images that were shown by His Beatitude were not simply photos that were taken of the Assyrian Church of the East clergy, however were images that spoke a thousand words, with a history and story behind all of them.
3. Photos of churches & villages:
A sentimental part, as it focused on various churches both past and present. His Beatitude carefully explained the intricacies of these churches and also explained the significance of the villages that they were found in.
4. Photos of church members:
Consisting of images that had members of the Assyrian Church of the East present, in different places of the world. Such images were able to depict the change that occurred through time.
5. Miscellaneous photos:
Various images that His Beatitude had collected. Each image was unique and allowed for some of the faithful to reflect on images were known to them.
The presentation was extremely engaging and allowed for the seven hundred faithful to be blessed with further knowledge about our church history and the significance that it was had in the past and presently.
The Assyrian Church of the East Youth Association wish to extend their gratitude to all involved in the organisation of this event.

God bless you all. |
