Radio Program

The Assyrian Church of the East began its radio broadcasting approximately 15 years ago at a community radio service in Liverpool, Sydney Australia. The programme has made considerable progress over the years, covering topics that attend to the spiritual needs of the members of the church for all ages. We have regular listeners for the two hour programme, some as young as 12 year olds, who call in and share their thoughts which are very encouraging to those who are the much older.

A number of our listeners have referred to the program as “my personal Church service”. The listening audience gains a great deal of Godly knowledge that can be applied in every-day life situations we face at work, school and interaction with friends and community. It is of no surprise when listers report that the programme is consistent in delivering quality messages week after week, as the whole content is centred upon Jesus Christ and the Holy Scriptures. The main presenter is Rev. Father Genard Lazar who has served for 18 years in the Sydney based Diocese of the Assyrian Church of the East Sydney. His commitment to hosting this programme goes back to the days when he way a young Deacon.

The format of the radio program is based around the reading of a portion of scripture, followed by commentary and discussion by Rev. Genard Lazar and the co-presenters. The co-presenters are active members of the St Peter and Paul Parish and are usually involved in leading Wednesday nights Bible Studies and Friday nights preaching. The programme also consists of Church Hymns and Prayers and notices of church activities. Topical issues ranging from our own church matters to other parts of the world are also shared. Another fun part of the programme is the Biblical quiz, where callers are encouraged to ring the radio station for their answers. At times we have the privilege of having live interviews ranging from Bishop Mar Meelis Zaia and other Church leaders, as well as the ordinary members of the church who provide personal testimonies about how Christ has made a difference in their lives.

The two-hour airtime is divided into two segments. The first hour and a half is presented in the Assyrian language followed by the last halve hour in English.
