The Assyrian Church of the East Sunday
School in Sydney consists of three teachers (who report
to St Hurmizd Parish Priest).
These teachers take responsibility
of up to 70 students every Sunday during Church service.
Students of this school are educated in the Assyrian
language, Christian faith, Spiritual hymns (according
to the liturgy of the Church of the East), as well
as other aspects of ethics required accordingly.
Praying,
respect for parents, attending Church services and
love for the Assyrian Nation and language, are other
disciplinary guidance effectively bestowed. Previously,
The Church was forced to rent classrooms from a local
public school. However, at present, this school is
conducted within the classrooms of St Hurmizd Assyrian
Primary School. From there, students are escorted by
their respective teachers, to the Church for the taking
of Holy Communion.
The Church fully supplies all the
reading and writing materials required by the students,
free of charge. One half of any excursion fees are
also provided by the Church. During these excursions,
students visit such educational venues as museums and
zoos.
Upon the completion of the academic year
and during the annual Christmas party organized by
the teachers, the Church presents each student with
a Christmas gift. Funds for theses activities are all
derived from the yearly membership fee paid by the
Church faithful. The Diocesan Bishop has always stressed
that, the Church must try it’s utmost to provide
for the faithful, through services, activities and
any other means beneficial to them.
